Colleen Houck Author Interview
Tiger’s Curse, paperback
What makes the paperback release different from the hardcover?
The paperback release will bring in a whole other group of readers. I have several friends who prefer
reading paperbacks over carrying around the heavier hardcovers and they’re very excited to get their
hands on this new version. There is also the chance to update the book and add bonus material which all
my fans know I love to write.
What are you most excited about with the paperback?
I’m very excited to share Kelsey’s recipes! I’m a foodie as most of you can tell from my books and I can
say from experience that there’s nothing better than sitting down with a new paperback and a hot batch
of Ren’s cookies. Light a sandalwood candle too and it’s like you’re in the story.
Is there something you can tell us about Tiger’s Curse that no one else knows?
Yes! Pay close attention to Kelsey’s dreams because they are foreshadows of things to come later on in
the series.
Ren or Kishan?
I honestly love both brothers and want both of them to get their happy endings. I didn’t think I’d love
Kishan as much as I do but he has solidly wedged himself into my heart.
Kelsey can be sassy! Why did you choose to make her character so empowered?
I wanted a heroine who could do all the cool things I’d like to do. I was a big fan of Wonder Woman. She
was beautiful and could do amazing things. That’s what I wanted for Kelsey. My hope is that my female
readers will see that ordinary girls can do extraordinary things.
Has your day-to-day changed since becoming a NYT bestselling author?!? What does your husband
think about it?
My day to day just gets busier and more hectic every week that passes. My favorite time is when I can
just sit down at my computer and get lost in my story. My husband is proud and amazed. He likes to
brag about his author wife to perfect strangers and hands out book marks to everyone he meets.
Last question—do you plan on visiting India? You’ve already done so much research about it!
I have no immediate plans but I would LOVE to go. I think it would be amazing to see all the locations
I’ve written about. I made a real effort as I wrote to layer my fantasy world on top of real world places
because I like the idea of feeling like you could actually step through a doorway into another world.
Ren’s Cookies
2 sticks of butter
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 ½ tsp vanilla
¼ tsp salt
¾ cup dark coco powder
2 cups flour
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
1 bag of chocolate chips
¾ cup smooth peanut butter
½ cup brown sugar
Cream the butter then add sugars. When it’s light and fluffy, add eggs and vanilla. Sift the next 5 dry
ingredients and mix with the wet until thoroughly combined. Add one package of chocolate chips (or as
many as you like!) to the dough. Mix together the next 2 ingredients to make the peanut butter filling.
Then place a spoonful of the chocolate dough on a baking sheet, top with some peanut butter filling,
and cover with some more chocolate dough. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-20 minutes depending on
cookie size.

Hi! I think the cover should have both brothers on it.. in man form
Maybe something pertaining to the book, for example: Tiger’s Voyage had a dragon on the front cover because the book had something to do with dragons, Tiger’s Quest had a black tiger on it because the story revolved around more of one brother then the other, and Tiger’s Curse had a white tiger on it because the book revolved around Ren. Personally though, I think Durga might make an appearance on the cover of Tiger’s Destiny.
Since Tiger’s Destiny is supposed to revolve around fire I think the cover would probably show fire in the background with one of the character standing in a dramatic pose in the middle, such a Kelsey or another idea for the cover, the one I would like to see, is Ren and Kelsey embraced in each others arms surrounded by fire.
Since Tiger’s Destiny is supposed to revolve around fire I think the cover would show fire in the background with one of the characters standing in a dramatic pose in the middle, such as Kelsey. Another idea and the one I would like to see is Ren and Kelsey embraced in each others arms surrounded by fire.

I think it should have both brothers in their tiger form fighting one another
Maybe some sort of new beast they’ll confront. Or Lokesh surrounded by dark black fire.
I think the cover should have something having to fire and Ren (on the left, in human form), Kishan (on the right, in human form), and Kelsey (in the middle).
i think the cover should have Ren Kishan and Kels on the cover with background of fire and or lokesh… Just my thoughts
definately it’s Kell’s turn now. It was the brothers and dragons part – the early 3. But now Kelsey is taken and it will be mostly her fight against darkness. A small female figure surrounded by dark with only two stars above her – the tiger’s stars. Or she looks in the sky and see two roaring tigers that chase darknes away.
It is a given that Tiger’s Destiny is based on the element of fire. So it makes total sense that the cover ought to visually convey that element. The first two book covers had a tiger on the front – and those covers are perfect for those books because we readers are introduced to each tiger and we come to know and love the personality of the man inside the beast. The third cover has my favorite dragon on it – and that dragon had the most grandfatherly (for lack of better term) and helpful personality. Each cover had only one figure on it, and I think this book cover should continue with that. Colleen has incorporated mythology into the story line – it plays a huge part into what Kelsey has to deal with. I think it would be neat to convey that in the cover. Because of the element of fire, and also because mythological volcano figures play into this story it would be neat to see a mythological fire creature on the front. A Phoenix (not the type of phoenix that is conveyed through the Harry Potter series – as looking like Dumbledore’s bird) would be awesome – one that is shown midflight engulfed in flame, and with some of the flames looking like bird feathers.
Each of the first three books covers has only one figure on it – and that makes total sense. With the first two, we learned more about the man hidden within each tiger. That was perfect for the covers. Voyage’s cover had only one dragon , even though five were dealt with. I think the cover of Destiny should keep with that same idea, with only one figure on the cover. Because Colleen has incorporated mythology heavily into the storyline, I think it would be awesome to have that figure be representative of that. It would be neat to see a phoenix in midflight, completely engulfed in flame, and with the flame potraying the features of that creature (wings, feathers, open beak, etc).
The previous covers correlate with major themes within the story. And they have all illustrated some sort of animal. So if I had to guess, I would expect the new cover to be about something common in the future tasks….let’s see: maybe snakes??? Although that may seem so similar to the dragon on the last cover. All I know is that I just can’t wait!!!!
The previous covers illustrated a common theme in each book. And they all centered around an “animal” of sort. So without any knowledge of what’s going to happen in Book 4, I will venture to guess that this new cover would show……snakes!!! We all know how important snakes are to the storyline so maybe that’s what the task will center on in this book.
The previous covers illustrated a common theme within each separate novel. And each of those illustrations were of some sort of “creature” of sort. So without knowing anything about the theme of our next novel, I would venture to say that the cover will show…snakes!! Snakes have played a major part in the story line so maybe its time they get their own book!
On the cover of Tiger’s Destiny, I think it would be great to have Kelsey standing in the middle of both Ren & Kishan in tiger form with there eyes being prevalent upon her, Durga and flames in the background.
I have a couple of ideas for the cover of Tiger’s Destiny: 1st cover would be Fire & Durga in the background with Kelsey standing between Ren & Kishan in their tiger form, her hands intwined in their fur. 2nd would be Kishan in human form with Kelsey and Ren in Tiger form protecting her in some pose from Lokesh. Just a couple of thoughts!!!
Would love an autographed copy of your book, Tiger’s Curse, I was hooked since the first book and I am so looking forward to the release date of Tiger’s Destiny!!!!
For some reason my suggestions are not being posted, so I will try one more time…
My main thought for the cover of Tiger’s Destiny would be to have Kelsey standing in the middle of Ren & Kushan in Tiger form with Durga and fire in the background. Ren & Kishan’s eyes centered on Kelsey!!!
I think it would be great to have Kelsey standing between Ren & Kishan in tiger form, her hands on both with the background of fire and Durga, or the background with an image of Ren and Kishan in human form. (noticeable but iridescent)! That would be interesting, especially since 3 parts of the curse have been broken and they can remain in human form longer, but chose to stay in tiger form which they are stronger.
Well Kelsey casted Fanindra out of the boat during the huge dramatic scene in Tiger’s Voyage. Maybe Fanindra will become a key element in helping Ren and Kishan find Kelsey again. Yet we need those tiger’s too, because they’re the whole reason for this book’s existance! Plus I can’t forget about the fire element in Tiger’s Destiny! So what I’m proposing is that maybe walking out of fire could be Ren and Kishan, their eyes glowing from the flame with Fanindra wrapped around one of their legs, her eyes glowing and trying to show them the way to Kelsey. To me it would be perfect for this book. Also, I think Fanindra needs a chance to shine! She’s worked so hard for it! (:
